  1. Taquile island is not a reed island, and unlike the reed islands it is Quechua-speaking (the famous reed islands are Aymara). The men have some mad knitting skills, and knit their own wedding caps. It is also a great place to visit,. I had the pleasure in 2009 and I’d go back tomorrow if I could!

  2. Potatoes are native of Peru, there are hundreds of varieties of cultivated at different elevations.

  3. This month marks the 100th anniversary of the rediscovery of Machu Picchu, though two different dates are reported for this. (I have shared you on fb)

  4. I went to Peru with my daughter a couple years ago and we absolutely loved it — a great place to take kids. We saw Machu Picchu – definately worthy of its rank as one of the wonders of the world – and the Sacred Valley around Cusco. We also saw the Uros Islands in Lake Titicaca (the highest navigable lake in the world). The Uros made the islands out of lake reeds in order to escape the Incas. We also saw the condors flying over Colca Canyon near Arequipa. Colca Canyon is the world’s deepest canyon.
I’m already a fan on facebook – and will recommend this giveaway on Facebook.

  5. I grew up in Peru, it has been my dream to popularize the culture through children’s book, im so thrilled that someone else had the same dream!
BTW the coast has the best surfing, and Cuzco has the most amazing blue skies… Hands down, someday better than Paris!

  6. I have always wanted to go to Peru, the former land of the Incas. My mother and her boyfriend just went last year and I was so disappointed not to go with them. I’ve always wanted to see Macchu Picchu and the architecture in Lima. I would also like to see the treasures of Senor de Sipan

  7. Machu Pichu, a unesco world heritage site, sits at 2430m above sea level.
