What better way to celebrate Midsummer than making a sun-inspired craft. These sun catchers will look awesome on your windows and your kids will love watching the sun filter through them.

Materials:

Black poster board or construction paper
Wax paper
Scissors
Crayons
Grater
Glue

Instructions:

1. Trace a sun on a piece of paper, around a plate, onto black paper.
2. Cut the sun shape out and cut out the circle in the middle.
3. Trace a round circle on 2 pieces of wax paper, around the same plate. Cut the circle about ½ inch outside the line, to make some room for gluing.
4. Grate some crayons (all the old, broken ones!) in sunny colors–reds, oranges and/or yellows.
5. Put some crayon shavings in the center of the wax paper. You don’t need a lot. Put the other piece on top.
6. Cover with a dish towel and iron over the towel for about 1 minute. Note: it is better not to move the iron around like you are ironing clothes as the wax paper will wrinkle. Just hold the iron for a couple seconds over different places on the towel to melt the crayons.
7. Glue the wax paper to the back of the sun.
8. Decorate your windows by either putting the suncatcher on directly or hanging from a string.
